Sven Kinast - 99% Custom Knife 80CrV2 carbon steel FAT carbon / bog oak
A custom knife from me? Yes .. it has always been a big dream of mine to implement my own thoughts the way I imagine. Go straight to the workshop without waiting for a prototype. Two years ago I bought the right equipment for knife production, but only intensively dealt with this topic last year. I tried out a few things, tested them and threw them into the "bin". And still today my knives will not be perfect but of the quality so that I can offer them to someone. It will be some time before I can say ... "Now it's perfect".But why only 99% custom knives?
In the beginning I cut out the blanks with the flex and I hate working with the flex. That is why I have the pure blanks, i.e. only the basic shape without grinding, cut out by a company using a laser (hence the 99% handmade). This has the advantage for me in the learning process that if there is an error on the belt sander I can directly access a new blank and then take the mistake into account and try to avoid it. Thanks to Matthias Leimküller for helping me with the autocut files and finding a company for the laser cut. This knife is my very first knife, which I officially sell. As steel, I chose carbon steel because the processing is optimal for me. I still had leftovers from a FAT carbon plate. So why throw away this expensive material when you can use it as a bolster. For the main handle material I used old bog oak, which I brushed as a finish. In contrast with the FAT carbon and the copper pins a dream. Since I don't want to deal with leather now, I made a carbon-look Kydex.
I am completely happy with my first knife even if it is not yet perfect ... I hope you as a customer too.
