Pocket knife with Jan van Riebeeck motif - A piece of history in your hand
Experience a piece of history with this unique pocket knife, perfect for collectors and lovers of exceptional craftsmanship. The blade of this special knife dates from the 1960s, a time when Solingen, the famous "Blade City" in Germany, was in full bloom. Solingen was known worldwide at that time for its superior blade manufacturing, and this blade is a testament to that craftsmanship. When the great economic downturn came, many Solingen companies closed and there was a surplus of blades. In the 1980s, these old blades were used and new embossed blades were produced.
Who was Jan van Riebeeck?
The highlight of this knife is the image of Jan van Riebeeck and the story associated with it, an important historical explorer and founder of Cape Town. Van Riebeeck played a central role in the early colonial history of South Africa and was instrumental in establishing the first permanent European outpost in southern Africa. His image on this knife is reminiscent of the pioneering work and adventurous spirit of times gone by. J.v. Riebeeck administered the Cape Colony until 1662. South African places such as Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West were named after him.
A very special collector's item that I have only seen once myself.
