Abalone | Rinkhals Arno Bernard | RWL34 Half stop | Titan slipjoint
Here is a very special Rinkhals pocket knife by Arno Bernard Knives. The four brothers from South Africa produced only 5 pieces of this titanium slipjoint in the first step, because the processing is very complex. The handles are made from the abalone shell, although they are actually snails. From the inside of this shell you can see this colored layer, which is only very thin.
The basic material consists of thin plates, which can break at any time during processing. For this reason, Arno Bernard Knives has glued the abalon material onto a carrier material. Sol is easier to process and cut. I once attached additional pictures from the production to show them that the processing is done entirely by hand. No CNC processing is used here, so finished shells would then be available. Each individual handle is drawn, cut and sanded by hand.
Although it is almost a shame to use this knife, the Rinkhals is designed for everyday use.
