Rinkhals skeletonized - Arno Bernard | Damascus steel half stop | Titanium Slipjoint | Abalone shells
Here is a very special Rinkhals pocket knife from Arno Bernard Knives. The four brothers from South Africa only produced 5 of this titanium slipjoint in the first step because the processing is very complex. The handle scales are made from the abalone shell, although they are actually snails. From the inside of this shell you can see this colored layer, which is only very thin.
The base material consists of thin plates, which can break at any time during processing. For this reason, Arno Bernard Knives glued the abalone material to a carrier material. This makes it easier to process and cut. I have attached additional pictures from production to show you that the processing is entirely handmade. No CNC processing is used here, so that finished shells would then be available. Each individual handle is drawn, cut and sanded by hand.
Even though it's almost a shame to use this knife, the Rinkhals is designed for everyday use.
