Carl Schlieper Goes to Indonesia - Multitool - Extremely Rare - Scissors, Corkscrew, Bottle Opener, Blade
This is probably one of the rarest Carl Schlieper gentleman's knives I have ever seen. Based on the markings on the front, this knife was specifically manufactured for export to the former Dutch colonies in Southeast Asia (present-day Indonesia).
Batavia, Soerabaia (Surabaya), Semarang, Medan: These are all important port and trading cities on the islands of Java and Sumatra in present-day Indonesia. These cities were important trading posts for the Dutch colonial rulers. Carl Schlieper used these names on his knives to promote his presence and distribution in this particular, lucrative export market. This indicates that the knife was intended for distribution there.
Batavia, Soerabaia (Surabaya), Semarang, Medan: These are all important port and trading cities on the islands of Java and Sumatra in present-day Indonesia. The blacksmith (embossed on the back, often depicting a hammer on an anvil) was a well-known and frequently used trademark (logo) of the Carl Schlieper company, representing traditional craftsmanship, strength, and quality.
The knife with metal scales (possibly nickel silver) features a corkscrew, blade, bottle opener, and even scissors. A very special piece for collectors interested in Solingen's history.
