Boker pocket knife Barlow with oak from Schloss Burg in Solingen
Schloss Burg is the symbol of the Bergisches Land region and towers not far from the Böker Manufaktur above the Wupper. Count Adolf II von Berg had the hill castle, completed in 1133, built on the foundations of a 10th century fortification. Today it is one of the largest castles in western Germany and is inextricably linked to the Duchy of Berg and the Counts of Berg (1068 to 1225). Even today, Burg Castle reflects the count's enormous prosperity and their far-reaching influence in the Rhenish-Westphalian region. Count Engelbert II von Berg was also Archbishop of Cologne.
Since the history of Böker can be traced back to the year 1674 with the first registration of the tree as a trademark for hand tools, we are also historically very closely connected to the Bergisches Land and are in regular contact with the historians of Schloss Burg. Large parts of the castle are currently being renovated true to the original, among other things, old, massive oak planks have to be replaced. This gave us the idea to preserve this historical material for posterity and to process it professionally into handles in our manufactory.
Based on this, we have designed the Boker Castle Burg series, a historic knife line with seven traditional knife models. In addition to the historic oak wood from Schloss Burg, the models feature the use of brass plates and the use of carbon steel O1 as the blade material. In order to emphasize the authenticity of the knives, the blades are provided with a special acid wash finish, which also protects them from harmful environmental influences. All models are made by hand in the Böker Manufaktur Solingen, are strictly limited to 1133 pieces worldwide and are delivered with the newly published historical Böker tree emblem.
The classic Barlow model with its characteristic extra-long nickel silver cheek and the wider blade is on the one hand a small, absolutely pocket-friendly companion, but on the other hand it is large enough to handle most everyday cutting tasks with ease.
